about the artists

Shevy & the Pulse is a folk fusion band with Siobhan Fitzgerald-Matson (Shevy) on vocals and guitar, Shan Harmon on drums, Dara "The Scorpion" Gallagher on bass, Sonlee Fitzgerald-Matson on trumpet, and Tori Welch on percussion. We do originals and wide array of awesome covers to boot! We try to put our own bluesy-folksy twist to whatever we do, and we no doubt cover an artist that you love! From Radiohead to Tennesee Ernie Ford to The Knife to MIA to Nirvana, we guarantee we will put a new spin on the songs you want to hear!

S & the P has played at many different venues ranging from open mics to bars to private parties to fundraisers and festivals. They were excited to participate in Pride Festival 2013, 2014, and 2015 and have played at the Buffalo Infringement Festival and Buffalo Porch Fest. S&theP plays semi-regularly at Hot Mama's Canteen but has been featured around town at DBGB's, Spot Coffee, Dreamland Art Studio, Merge Restaurant, the Foundry, Forvm Lounge, and is hopefully coming soon to a venue near you! Book us for a show by emailing shevy.n.thepulse@gmail.com

Shevy and Shan met through a mutual musical friend in 2012 and have been jamming happily ever after since that day. Shevy has been singing since 8 years old, and their musical background is mostly in the Celtic/Bluegrass/Folk realm since they grew up singing and playing fiddle in their mother's Celtic band, The Sheiling. They began composing songs at the age of 12 and was heavily influenced by strong female vocalists such as Ani DiFranco, Aretha Franklin, Alanis Morissette, Loreena McKennit, Sheila Chandra, and Tori Amos, and of course their own mother Alannah Fitzgerald. During college Shevy had a blast performing in Motown, Bluegrass, and Jug Band ensembles and soon decided to tackle the guitar. After moving to Buffalo from Albany in 2010, Shevy tirelessly attended open mics searching for a bandmate to call family until meeting Shan and their musical chemistry soon became a driving force.

Shan started on the drums at the age of 8 thanks to their momma dukes. After mastering all the CDs available in their moms collection Shan started trying to develop their own style. They have two years of classical training but hair buns and black dresses ain't really their style. During their time in the conservatory they took a hand drum class that blew their mind. As their mom would say they can "make a beat from anything." They have also been known as "the sick nasty master of beats."

Scorpion also plays bass in The Black Rock Blues Band with Dennis Carson, S & the P's awesome sound technician. Aside from being a stellar bassist, Scorpion has also begun to pick up the drum kit, and identifies as a LRS (living room sexual). Also, Scorpion tends to confuse easily, so watch out for her pincers!

Sonlee Fitzgerald-Matson wows us all with his haunting trumpet solos and accents and gives the group a really unique sound. He has been a musician for years and can pretty much pick up anything and play it, and has recently begun to dabble with the bass in S & the P. Who knows what instrument he will pick up next!

Tori Welch is a creative and sensitive percussionist, filling up our sound with a nice African drum style vibe, and her talents really shine through when she slaps that djembe. Tori studied djembe at SUNY Fredonia and we are excited to add her skills to the group dynamic.
